Guernsey Lore Book
Within my MA Illustration at Brighton University in September 2021-2022, I created the illustrated and written book Guernsey Lore. This book served as a way to connect with my own cultures' folklore, as well as providing a physical medium for this subject within the modern-day. This culture is slowly disappearing due to mining of the important local Monuments for housing clearance, as well as a lack of written accounts. The written accounts that do exist, are heavily text-based and not often available to the public. This encouraged my want to create a book that encapsulated the Monuments, Characters and Superstitions on the Island whilst imagining this subject within Illustration. Once this book was finished, Blue Ormer Publishing in Guernsey expressed a great interest in this book, and I was very pleased to have this book published with them in the Autumn of 2022. The book has been a success, and has tested not only my book-making and illustrative skills, but also improved my public speaking and confidence within the events surrounding its publication.
